McCarthy Selected To Rebuild Phoenix Water Treatment Plant
Deer Valley Project is Latest of Several Water Treatment Facilities Built by Company
Tempe, AZ McCarthy was recently awarded a $120 million contract to reconstruct a city of Phoenix water treatment plant (WTP), adding to the building company's growing portfolio of public works projects, a strategic focus of the firm's Southwest Region. Over the past 25 years, the firm has completed more than $780 million in water/wastewater treatment projects in the region.
"We've earned our reputation in this market sector by successfully delivering on these projects over the last three decades and have built a lot of depth in systems and people specializing in this product," said Bo Calbert, president of McCarthy's Southwest Region, headquartered in Tempe.
The project is the reconstruction of the Deer Valley Water Treatment Plant East Treatment Basins, located at 3030 W. Dunlap Avenue. The plant currently treats 75 million gallons of water per day (MGD), and the city is replacing it with a new 100 MGD facility. The Deer Valley WTP will be a strong addition to McCarthy's growing portfolio of public works projects.
"With the amount of growth in the Southwest, public works projects are an expanding area of commercial construction. We welcome opportunities to demonstrate our experience, and to help municipalities tackling the challenge of renovating and rebuilding, and establishing new facilities," Calbert said.
In addition to this most recent project, McCarthy is currently constructing the Greenfield Water Reclamation Plant in the East Valley and the Lake Pleasant Water Treatment Plant in northwest Phoenix.
McCarthy has built or expanded many water and wastewater facilities throughout the Valley including the City of Phoenix 91st Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant, the 23rd Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Val Vista Water Treatment Plant, and the Scottsdale water campus, among others throughout Maricopa County.
The first phase of Lake Pleasant Water Treatment Plant – the largest design-build-operate project in North America – is scheduled to be online in spring 2007. The $336 million project will provide enough water to supply 400,000 households in the growing northwest Phoenix area. The Greenfield Water Reclamation Plant in Gilbert will treat wastewater for the city of Mesa, and towns of Gilbert and Queen Creek. The $145 million project is a joint venture with Sundt Construction and is anticipated to be operational by the summer of 2007.
All the water treatment projects utilize alternative project delivery methods, enabling McCarthy to be involved in the project during the planning and design phase and helping contain costs, maintain project schedules, encourage collaboration of the design/construction team and better define project scope.
