Major Wastewater Project in North-east Scotland Gets Underway

A new wastewater system for the north east of Scotland will serve a population of over 240,000 and is projected to cost around 80 million pounds (approximately $130). The North of Scotland Water Authority has appointed the Mott Babtie joint venture, comprising Mott MacDonald and the Babtie Group, as technical adviser for the Aberdeen wastewater project.

When completed the project will provide the City of Aberdeen and the neighboring towns of Stonehaven, Peterhead and Fraserburgh with wastewater treatment and sludge conditioning facilities that will improve the environment of the North Sea and the beaches of north-east Scotland.

Mott Babtie is part of the North of Scotland Water Authority's private finance initiative (PFI) advisory team. The team also includes Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and Allen & Overy, which act as financial and legal advisers respectively.

Mott Babtie also acts as technical adviser on the Highland sewerage private finance initiative project which will provide wastewater treatment for the City of Dundee and nearby areas to the west. The Aberdeen scheme is one of several being undertaken by water authorities under the PFI.
