Macrolite: An Alternative To Membrane Filtration

Newbury, OH - Macrolite, a joint development by 3M Company and N/A, is a ceramic filtration media that is an effective and efficient alternative to membrane filtration. The new spherical shaped and variable sized media provides high quality filtrated drinking water that meets Surface Water Treatment Rule (SWTR) as well as the enhanced SWTR regulations.

Membranes commonly require replacement every five years, whereas Macrolite ceramic media does not typically need replaced. Glen Latimer, Manager of Municipal Sales, cites additional benefits, "Macrolite has been designed with efficiencies in mind. It offers a much lower capital cost compared to membrane filtration, and continues to save money with significantly lower operational and maintenance costs."

Kinetico purchased Macrolite technology and all rights from 3M Company in 1994. Though proven highly effective in municipal water treatment, Macrolite continues under research and development for new applications such as wastewater and membrane pre-treatment.

Launched at the AWWA tradeshow in Chicago, June 22-23, a new CD highlights the benefits and unique characteristics of Macrolite. Copies can be obtained by contacting Vicky Zbozien at CWS@Kinetico.com or 440-564-9111.
