Lucid Energy Inks Agreement With City Of Portland, Portland Water Bureau And PDC

In-conduit hydropower system from Lucid Energy harnesses the energy generated by water flowing through large pipelines, providing predictable, baseload renewable energy with no environmental impact.

Portland, OR (PRWEB)

Lucid Energy Inc., a renewable energy technology company and pioneer in the development of in-pipe hydropower systems for large water users, today announced that the company has signed an agreement with the Portland Development Commission (PDC) and the City of Portland, Oregon to partner on the development of a hydropower system within the city.

The partners plan to collaborate with the Portland Water Bureau on a project that will use Lucid Energy's patented LucidPipe™ Power System, a unique, in-pipe turbine that captures energy from fast-moving water inside of gravity-fed water pipelines to produce clean, reliable, low-cost electricity. The partners also will identify innovative applications for the technology, such as providing power to eco-districts, car charging stations, desalination plants, purification systems and off-grid water agency tasks.

"We are very motivated to find ways to reduce the costs of delivering water to our customers," said David Shaff, Portland Water Bureau administrator. "We are looking forward to working with Lucid Energy to achieve this important objective."

In a statement issued by the PDC and the City of Portland, Mayor Sam Adams said, "This agreement with Lucid Energy is an opportunity for us to extend Portland's position as a living laboratory for green innovation and advanced manufacturing – and commercialize new technologies in our marketplace that will lead to more jobs, more investment, and more exports of locally-developed systems."

The agreement also calls for collaboration on a first-ever in-conduit hydropower symposium in Portland, with the prospect of drawing the participation of both local and international leaders in energy and water technology.

"We are excited to have Portland as a partner to support our mission of being a global leader in the race to deliver smart water and energy solutions around the world," said Gregg Semler, president and CEO of Lucid Energy Inc. "Portland has a very rich ecosystem of leaders dedicated to smart energy and water infrastructure."

Lucid Energy's in-pipe hydropower systems are targeted at large water users such as municipal water and wastewater systems, agriculture irrigation districts and water-intensive industries such as pulp and paper plants, chemical processing, data centers, semi-conductor fabs, aluminum manufacturing and thermo-electric power plants. Because of LucidPipe's unique lift-based, vertical axis spherical turbine, which spins as water passes it, LucidPipe can operate across a wide range of flow conditions, volumes and velocities without any significant reduction in pressure.

About Lucid Energy
Lucid Energy is a provider of renewable energy systems. Lucid Energy's patented LucidPipe™ Power System enables industrial, municipal and agricultural facilities to generate clean, reliable, low-cost electricity from their gravity-fed water pipelines and effluent streams.

Lucid Energy was formed in 2007 with the mission of creating a new way for industries – particularly those that use large amounts of water and electricity – to turn the untapped energy of moving water into cost-saving, renewable energy. In 2008, Lucid formed a strategic relationship with Northwest Pipe Company (NASDAQ: NWPX), the largest manufacturer of steel water transmission pipe in the United States. The two companies collaborated on the development of the lift-based turbine design that is the foundation for the LucidPipe in-pipe hydropower system.
