Liquid-phase H₂S Sensor Provides New Insights At Treatment Plants

Source: Hach

Precise conductivity measurement is essential for ensuring water quality across various industrial and municipal applications, from monitoring cooling tower blowdown to managing wastewater effluent. Traditional contact sensors often face significant hurdles in these environments, particularly when high levels of suspended solids, oils, or corrosive chemicals are present. These contaminants can coat electrodes, leading to fouled sensors, inaccurate readings, and frequent, labor-intensive maintenance cycles.

Inductive or electrodeless sensing offers a more resilient alternative by using encapsulated coils to measure conductivity through induction. Because the sensing elements never come into direct contact with the process fluid, the risks of polarization and electrode fouling are virtually eliminated. This design allows for consistent performance in "dirty" or aggressive streams where standard sensors typically fail. Implementing this technology ensures long-term accuracy and operational uptime, even in the most challenging conditions.
