Lipp has recently been validated by the Achilles Utility Sector supply-chain management system for UK supply. Lipp is one of the leading tank system manufacturers in Europe, having been in existence since the 1950’s. It has patented over 170 different manufacturing, material construction and tank design technologies, supplying to a number of market sectors including; water, pharmaceuticals, oil & gas, farming and the renewables industry.

Lipp has been successfully audited and approved by Achilles as part of the approved UVDB client supply base covering the UK Utilities Sector. The quality approval provided gives additional recognition to Lipp’s product and delivery standards alongside the recognition they have already attained in Europe with their TUV standards. In Germany Lipp is recognised as a specialised supply company according in TÜV SÜD to article 19 of the German Water Resources Act, paying particular attention to the durability of its products, professional project execution and a high quality workmanship throughout their build process.

The achieved TÜV NORD approval covers Lipp’s manufacturing and welding standards having achieved welding manufacturer approval according to DIN EN ISO 3834-2, where Lipp is an approved welding manufacturer in tank, machine and steel construction according to DIN EN ISO 3834-2, ensuring professional welding operations and also welding applications up to EXC3 class according to DIN EN 1090-2. Where Lipp is certified to calculate and manufacture structural components and steel structures up to EXC3 class according to DIN EN 1090-2.

Following Achilles approval Lipp is now offering a comprehensive design, supply and manufacture service to the UK Utility sector, their experience in the development and supply of tank systems is extensive, with successful operations in 80 countries worldwide and over 50,000 tanks installed.

Lipp has developed a number of unique products such as their Verinox stainless steel composite material. Utilising both galvanised and stainless steel in a layered construction to provide a stainless steel tank liner without the expense of full stainless steel tank walls. The Verinox material allows for different grades of Stainless Steel to be selected to line the tank dependent upon substrate chemistry and aggression requirements.

In addition to Verinox, the Lipp tank manufacture process is also unique. Utilising a spiral form, double seal system, the tanks are created on site using Lipp’s own automated tank construction system. The tanks are built as a continuous spiral wall that ‘grows’ from the ground up. Thereby providing quick construction times, reduced labour costs and minimised high level scaffold work. The double seal system adds to the tank construction integrity and ensures gas tight seals with a completely smooth interior surface.

Martin Grant, UK Marketing and Sales Manager added, “in addition to Lipp’s extensive product range, we recognise that the many years of experience that have been developed through their continuous R&D programme will enable us to offer design and development services that are unrivalled in the UK market. Validation for supply to the UK Utility sector from Achilles further endorses this experience and manufacture quality.”

The tank system provides other applications that will be of relevance to the UK Water Utility sector, such as re-lining older concrete tanks to extend tank life or increase storage capacity. The Lipp spiral tank construction method enables a complete stainless or galvanised tank liner to be lowered into a concrete tank; thereby reducing repair and maintenance on aged tanks or the considerable expense of tank demolition and re-build.
