Koch Membrane Systems Releases 'PURON MBR: The Solution is Here!' On DVD

New Video Illustrates the Revolutionary New Membrane Bioreactor Module Design
Wilmington, MA Koch Membrane Systems, Inc. (KMS), a world-class developer and manufacturer of innovative membranes and filtration systems, has released a DVD illustrating the advantages of the PURON™ submerged membrane modules for treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater. The 15-minute DVD clearly explains how the innovative new design of the modules, intended for use in a membrane bioreactor (MBR), significantly improves effluent quality, while utilizing far less space than conventional alternatives.
The video shows how the PURON technology combines biological treatment and solids/liquids separation into a single process by submerging the membrane filtration modules directly into the activated sludge, thus avoiding the need for clarification. The PURON submerged membrane modules also treat more concentrated activated sludge, thereby reducing the size requirements for biological tanks, saving space and money.
The hollow fiber membranes of the PURON module act as a physical barrier to bacteria and suspended solids, producing low turbidity effluent with very low bacteria counts. The PURON membrane module uses a single header design that allows the upper ends of the hollow fiber membranes to move freely with a seaweed-like action, which is graphically illustrated in the DVD. This virtually eliminates clogging of the membranes with hair and fibrous materials. Additionally, the PURON MBR modules introduce air in the center of each hollow fiber bundle to reduce sludging. The combination of rising air bubbles and free movement of the membrane fibers minimizes the accumulation of sludge around the membranes, producing stable fluxes and reduced energy consumption.
