Case History: IPSCO Steel Facility In Baytown, TX Installs Highland Tank Oil/Water Separators For NPDES Compliance

The IPSCO Corporation was founded in 1956 as Prairie Pipe Manufacturing Company Ltd., originally making only pipe. Over the years the company has expanded to have facilities in five provinces in Canada and seven states in the United States. In 1984 the company officially changed the name to IPSCO Inc. IPSCO employs approximately 4,300 people and is currently North America's #1 maker of steel plate and #3 for producing energy tubular products.

Steel is the most recycled durable material on earth. IPSCO is proud to be a part of an industry committed to the environment. In following that commitment, IPSCO recently completed a project to upgrade the drainage system for the Baytown, TX facility with a new waste water treatment system. The system was designed to satisfy the facility's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit. The EPA requires facilities that engage in regulated industrial activities to obtain an NPDES Permit before discharging to storm water. The IPSCO facility is classified under SIC (Standard Industrial Code) # 33 for primary metal industries and is regulated under the NPDES program.
