“The selection of a pump starts at the engineer level in the engineer’s office,” says Azir Khan, regional manager for KSB.

What comes next in the selection process? Khan explains the factors to consider…

“For a switch pump, the non-clog factor is very important. A clogged pump has zero efficiency. So a lot of people tout efficiency, but the practical engineers look at the pump’s ability to pump solids without getting clogged.

“Of course with the smaller pumps, efficiency is not as important because, obviously, the horsepower is less. So you’re not paying too much to operate those pumps. But as the pumps get larger, efficiency becomes more important.”

In this exclusive interview with Water Online Radio, Khan goes on to further detail the considerations that need to be made in the selection of pumps for a variety of applications. Tune in by clicking on the Radio Player below, and get a complete rundown of selection criteria and KSB capabilities.
