Faced with growing water scarcity and the impacts of climate change, Severn Trent Water is leveraging smart technologies to manage resources more effectively and reduce water loss across its service area. By deploying Itron’s Cyble 5 smart meters and the Temetra meter data management platform, the utility has significantly enhanced its ability to detect and respond to leaks. Detailed consumption data is collected and analyzed in near real time, allowing Severn Trent to identify supply-side and customer-side leaks up to 145 days sooner than before. This early detection has already helped save over 6 million liters of water. In addition to operational efficiency, the system also boosts customer engagement by providing detailed usage reports and personalized conservation tips. Temetra’s intuitive dashboards and mapping tools further support rapid response and leak localization. With continued investment in this technology, Severn Trent is on track to meet its Green Recovery Program objectives while ensuring long-term water resilience and service affordability for its customers.
