High-Speed Wireless Modem Uses Dual Spread Spectrum Technology

Wi-LAN Inc. has announced the availability of the Hopper FD, a new wireless modem capable of sending data transmissions via direct sequence or frequency hopping spread spectrum technologies. The new modem will enhance SCADA systems by increasing the throughput reliability of data collected and distributed remotely.

The Hopper FD modem operates in the 902-928 MHz industrial, scientific, medical (ISM) band and is capable of delivering baud rates up to 19,200 bits-per-second full duplex or 38,400 half duplex in direct sequence mode. Any communications software package supports the FD modem. It features point-to-point, point-to-multi-point and multi-point transmission and delivers signals over clear line-of-sight distances exceeding six miles. The system, recently certified for use by the FCC, is said to be the first wireless modem to offer dual transmission technology capabilities.
