Hendrick Delivers Big Screen Appeal

Bob McDole, general manager of Hendrick Screen Company, describes the type of screens his company produces, and why their product line – and service – is unique to the markets they serve.

Todd Schnick: Let's go deep about the Hendrick Screen Company. Tell us about the organization, what you do and how you serve your market.

Bob: We manufacture stainless steel screens and we serve the water treatment and fish diversion markets, and in addition to that we get into the industrial side as well. 

Todd Schnick: Talk a little bit about the application of the technology that you're selling.

Bob: These are passive screens, and we do a lot for the water intake side of the business, the water treatment side. We offer a wedge wire – that's what we call it – a resistance welded screen; and we also offer profile bar, which is proprietary to Hendrick Screen Company. 

We're more of a custom shop.  If you can put it on paper, we can do it.  And one of the things that make us unique is our service – it's outstanding.

Todd Schnick: Well, tell us, who is your customer?

Bob: We sell a lot to the hydro side, to OEMs, to municipalities, to engineering companies.  We do fabricating on site, so basically we bypass that side of business.

Todd Schnick: You talked about service just a minute ago.  Go deeper into that.  Everybody says they have great service.  Be a little more specific.

Bob: I think we're responsive, and that's the key for us both.  From the minute that the order is received to the point that the customer receives it and says that they accept it, I think that's a real strength area for us. 

We've put a lot of time and effort into that.  So, whether you want a price or you actually want to put an order, you're going to get somebody on the phone.  You're not just going to get a recording. 

Then we follow up on that.  We have a great engineering staff.  So, if a customer needs assistance in design, or says, "Hey, I have an application.  Can you help me work with a certain screen?"  Then we have the ability to do that.
