Bayer Corporationidized Bed process uses a single chamber with upper and lower nozzle plates that are filled with one type of resin. The space between the nozzle plates is filled with resin and a layer of inert material. The unit is designed with a small freeboard so that part of the resin bed floats freely during service without permitting reclassification of the fine packed polishing layer at the top during either service or regeneration. This design is intended to optimize resin capacity and resin life through fluidized and packed zones.
