18” insertion valve Installed without shutting off the flow

Rocky Hill, CT – AVT, a global leader in advanced insertion valve technology, has successfully delivered a critical infrastructure upgrade at a major international airport on the West coast of the USA, completing the installation of an 18-inch EZ Valve without any interruption to essential fire suppression services.

The project took place in a highly sensitive operational area adjacent to aircraft maintenance hangars serving a major airline, where continuous fire protection is essential. As part of a broader airfield improvement programme that included pavement replacement and new pipeline installation, the valve installation required a solution capable of meeting strict operational, safety, and security requirements while maintaining uninterrupted service.

From the outset, the project presented a series of complex challenges. The fire suppression line could not be taken out of service at any time, making traditional installation methods unfeasible. At the same time, the work had to be carried out within a high-security airport environment, where adherence to rigorous protocols added additional layers of coordination and planning. The installation also coincided with active construction works, increasing logistical complexity, while the requirement for an 18-inch valve reflected the growing demand for larger-diameter infrastructure solutions across the West Coast.

To address these challenges, AVT’s established local installation partner selected the AVT EZ Valve system based on its proven capability to perform live installations on large-diameter pipelines. Having previously delivered multiple successful projects at the same airport, they brought valuable site familiarity and expertise, working in close collaboration with AVT’s technical specialists to ensure a seamless execution.

The EZ Valve’s ability to be installed on a live pipeline proved critical to the project’s success, eliminating the need for shutdowns and allowing the fire suppression system to remain fully operational throughout the process. In addition to maintaining continuous protection, the installation also introduced a permanent control point within the system, enhancing operational flexibility and supporting future maintenance activities.

By combining innovative insertion valve technology with experienced installation expertise, AVT continues to support asset owners in reducing risk, improving system resilience, and maintaining essential services during critical upgrades.

“The successful delivery of this project demonstrates the strength of our technology and the expertise of our partners,” said Head of AVT, Shawn Petty. “In environments where shutdowns are simply not an option, AVT provides the confidence and capability to keep systems running while essential improvements are made.”
