FILTRASORB® Granular Activated Carbon

FILTRASORB® granular activated carbon (GAC) represents Calgon Carbon’s signature product line, providing over 60 years of successful contaminant removal. Developed for the removal of organic compounds from water, Calgon Carbon’s best-in-class FILTRASORB products have the trifecta of key activated carbon attributes: high overall performance, strength/durability, and competitive pricing. Acting as a dual-purpose media, FILTRASORB provides both filtration and adsorption for treating surface water and groundwater in the production of clean, safe drinking water.
FILTRASORB is manufactured using a state-of-the-art production process. The process starts by selecting high quality coals which are reagglomerated. Reagglomeration simply means the raw materials are ground down to a fine mesh, then bound back together. This is a critical manufacturing step that cannot be overlooked in the selection of a top-quality GAC product. The granules are then baked and activated using a carefully controlled thermal process. The entire manufacture process is critical to creating a uniform or homogeneous pore structure and maximizing the overall adsorptive capacity.
FILTRASORB has been proven to tackle some of the toughest contaminants including:
- PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances)
- 1,2,3-Trichloropropane (TCP)
- Disinfection By-Products (DBPs)
- Endocrine-Disrupting Compounds (EDCs)
- Dissolved Organic Materials
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
- Algal Toxins
- Taste & Odor-Causing Compounds (T&Os)
FEATURES & BENEFITS:
- Sourced and manufactured in the United States from high-purity bituminous coal deposits; both processes provide a consistent, high-quality product. Additionally, domestic manufacturing provides the added advantage of supply security.
- Formulated to meet all the applicable provisions of the AWWA Standard for Granular Activated Carbon (B604) and Food Chemicals Codex. Meets the stringent NSF/ANSI 61 - Drinking Water System Components - Health Effects standard.
- Activated uniformly throughout each granule of carbon, resulting in exceptional adsorption properties and consistent adsorption kinetics.
- Provides greater adsorption capacity per unit volume due to high activity coupled with high-density (referred to as volume activity.)
- Created with high abrasion resistance due to high mechanical strength and manufacturing processes.
- Reduces generation of fines during backwashing and hydraulic transport which makes it an ideal candidate for repeated reactivation life cycles.
- Preconditioned to reduce the release of soluble inorganics and thus reduce the volume of rinse water needed during the start-up and conditioning.
- Demonstrated superior PFAS-removal capabilities compared to other carbons for over two decades.
REACTIVATION
FILTRASORB can be reactivated through a high-temperature thermal process that produces a recycled, reactivated product for reuse in various applications including wastewater treatment, water remediation, and custom reactivation for municipal drinking water reuse. The process effectively removes the adsorbed chemical constituents from the spent activated carbon.
