ET-1 Activated Clay
The cornerstone of ATI's technology is ET-1 Activated Clay. Our proprietary modification process transforms high-grade sodium bentonite into a powerful, selective adsorbent that bonds with hydrocarbons and other contaminants upon contact, locking them inside its molecular structure.
This Contaminant Lock technology yields a granular filtration medium capable of adsorbing approximately 70% of its weight in hydrocarbons. Extensive field tests of ET-1 Activated Clay, analyzed by independent laboratories, have demonstrated removal of a wide range of contaminants to non-detectable levels, resulting in discharge water which meets or exceeds regulatory requirements.
Hydrocarbon Removal
Field testing in conjunction with Fluor Daniel and the Department of Energy's Rocky Mountain Oilfield Testing Center has confirmed ET-1 Activated Clay's ability to clean produced water from oil well drilling operations, with reductions in high concentrations of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons and Oil & Grease to non-detectable levels. Soluble BTEX hydrocarbons were reduced to less than 3 ppb with ET-1 Activated Clay alone and to below detectable limits after exposure to a combination of ET-1 Activated Clay and activated carbon.
Product Versatility
ET-1 Activated Clay is a highly versatile product that can be used in a variety of configurations:
Stand-Alone Mode
Used on its own, ET-1 Activated Clay can be loaded in canisters for use as an efficient stillbed filtration medium. Other applications include tank cleaning, oil spill mitigation, and lining/capping projects.
Pre-Treatment Mode
ET-1 Activated Clay can be utilized upstream to enhance the performance and extend the life of other processes and media such as reverse osmosis and activated carbon.
Post-Treatment Mode
When positioned downstream of oil/water separators or coalescers, ET-1 Activated Clay functions as a potent cleaning and polishing agent, removing the remaining hydrocarbon contamination.
Environmental Benefits
The environmental implications of our Contaminant Lock technology are considerable: ET-1 Activated Clay captures hazardous liquid contaminants inside a non-hazardous, stable solid that meets stringent federal guidelines for storage, transportation and disposal.
Testing under the EPA's TCLP and LC-50 regimens has confirmed that the saturated product will not leach the adsorbed contaminants, making it suitable for use in landfills as beneficial daily cover. ATI is committed to ongoing research and finds promise in the possibility of bio-regeneration of spent ET-1 Activated Clay.
Economic Benefits
We understand that water treatment is a cost center for industry, and we are committed to solutions that minimize costs, to help you maximize profits. An ET-1 Activated Clay filtration system can process significantly more water than a carbon-only system before breakthrough occurs. This higher loading capacity means less frequent filter changes, saving down-time and labor costs. The net result is substantially lower operating costs, yielding higher profits.
