Cut Aeration Energy Costs With Better Dissolved Oxygen Control

Aeration is one of the biggest energy demands in a wastewater treatment plant, which makes dissolved oxygen control an important place to look for efficiency gains. The challenge is keeping enough oxygen in the basin to support the microorganisms doing the work, without over-aerating and driving up energy use or equipment wear.

This Hach application note walks through how continuous dissolved oxygen monitoring and automatic aeration control can help plants better manage blower speed based on actual process needs. In the study featured, each 10% reduction in blower speed reduced daily energy use by about 40 kWh, and the plant saw about an 8% reduction in total energy consumption during the trial period.
