Cost Controls For Pipeline Asset Management: A Lifecycle Approach

Our buried piping infrastructure can be 25 percent or more of the total asset value of a municipality. Inadequate attention to the proper asset management of this huge capital investment is putting many of our historic communities in jeopardy of becoming economically, environmentally, and socially unsustainable. Proper implementation of known asset management principals can help reverse this trend.

This presentation will use the example of cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) rehabilitation projects to describe design-phase engineering controls that can be readily implemented today to help agencies lower costs while best achieving their asset management goals pertaining to performance, sustainability, and resiliency. The presenter will also touch on current industry research that is likely to further advance the engineering aspects of the asset management of long-life infrastructure.
