Corvias Infrastructure Solutions Rebrands, Continues Long-Term Public-Sector Partnerships Serving Communities Across Maryland And Country

Community-based partnership steadfast in supporting stormwater, and green infrastructure economy

Corvias Infrastructure Solutions, LLC (CIS), a national leader in the development and implementation of public infrastructure solutions, today announced it has officially rebranded as CIS. Through its new moniker, CIS will continue to lead the nation in urban resilience, focusing on community-based partnerships including the Clean Water Partnership (CWP) in Prince George’s County, MD and other municipalities across the country.

CIS has helped to develop and implement an array of public infrastructure solutions. These include focusing on improving the environmental, and economic conditions of the nation’s infrastructure through solutions that drive local economic inclusion and equity. As part of this effort, the CIS has helped to lead the CWP, which served as the nation’s first and largest Community-based public-private partnership (CBP3) - a model designed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to address the need for new and innovative solutions to finance and manage stormwater runoff, especially in urban areas.

Established in 2015, the 30-year partnership between Corvias and Prince George’s County government was formed to retrofit over 4,000 acres of impervious surfaces using green stormwater infrastructure (GIS). This has included one of the most robust community benefit agreements of any CBP3 in the country, where it was focused on supporting local and minority businesses, and built-in resident employment participation.

“Under Corvias Infrastructure Solutions’ umbrella, we will continue to shepherd forward our deep-rooted success across Prince George’s County, supporting the local green water economy through impactful stormwater projects and initiatives that help to educate and alleviate stormwater runoff into the Chesapeake Bay,” said Roland L. Jones, Market Director, Mid-Atlantic, of CIS. “The Clean Water Partnership is a testament to our knowledge and understanding of the County and its needs as extreme weather events continue to impact our communities. Through our mentorship programs and new projects, we plan to continue to leverage our network to provide additional opportunities for local and minority-owned businesses while also making sure this business model can spur further economic development.”

With 3,699 impervious acres treated so far, the resulting impact has included environmental, social, and economic regional benefits. The CWP is on track to treat and maintain more than 7,300 impervious acres with nearly 430 stormwater improvement projects on school grounds, parks, municipal and private land and homeowner association properties. These projects have helped to reduce 75,595 pounds of nitrogen, 14,662 pounds of phosphorus, and nearly 17 million of suspended solids per year.

The CWP has also helped to grow local business capacity with the support of the local workforce. County residents perform 75 percent of the work and 78 percent of projects are completed by local, disadvantaged, minority-owned businesses. This effort has also included awarding more than $215M in subcontracts to local companies, and local residents have logged over 138,000, more than half of the total hours worked as part of the CWP.

Through mentorship, the CWP will continue to help broaden the local green economy. The CWP Mentor Protégé Program, now in its seventh year, focuses on mentoring and support to develop the local capacity of small businesses in stormwater management and green infrastructure projects. The program provides coaching, training, access to bid opportunities, capital, bonding, certification, and other supportive services. The Partnership has included 50 firms, and awarded over $35M in contracts.

In addition to the CWP, CIS is currently working to implement green infrastructure solutions and spur economic development in impacted areas across the country. Other community-based partnerships include:

  • City of Chester Community-Based Partnership, Chester, PA
  • Slauson Connect Clean Water Project, Los Angeles, CA;
  • Los Angeles Sanitation San Fernando Valley Green Streets, Los Angeles, CA
  • Stormwater Utility Community-Based Partnership, Kansas City, KS;
  • Fresh Coast Protection Partnership, Milwaukee, WI; and
  • RainCity Partnerships, Seattle WA;
