Connecting The Water Cycle: Bridging The Physical-Digital Gap

The business case for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and analytics is well understood. Instead, the hesitancy can often be blamed on one or two things. First, the upfront costs often seem prohibitive for many utilities, particularly those with limited budgets for capital expenses (CAPEX). Second, many utilities have been burned by failed systems or know of others that have been.

There are many reasons why an AMI system might fail, but more often than not it boils down to gaps in the physical-to-digital transition. This can be due to lack of diversity among devices, poor or unreliable communication systems, low battery life, and more. Sensus, and all of Xylem, aims to overcome these shortcomings through partnerships that provide a complete system that is designed for every part of the water cycle, from drinking water treatment to distribution to wastewater treatment. In addition, Sensus offers a path for water utilities to upgrade assets in a timeline that best suits the utility, ensuring that any and every community can benefit from a smart water network.
