After demolition of existing antiquated equipment, a 50 gallons per minute "Air Charger" iron reduction system was supplied and installed the existing water plant in 1996 by Krudico professionals. The Air Charger was installed to treat the public water supply of the small community. The Air Charger has succeeded in removing 99% of the iron from the town's water.

Also seen in the foreground of the Air Charger are two Stenner peristaltic chemical feed pumps to provide adequate chlorine and fluoride for bacterial treatment of the community water supply.

The Air Charger iron reduction system consists of one air injection/retention tank (above photo) and a series of five backwash sand filters. The filters are controlled by a Systemax 2000 Programmable Logic Controller which monitors the gallonage through the system, controls the chemical feed pumps, and determines when the system needs backwashed. The system also utilizes a 1,000 gallon pressure tank before the water goes to the public.

The Systemax 2000 programmable logic controller (PLC) is the electronic device which controls the system. Some of the Systemax 2000's responsibilities include demand meter input signal, regeneration time and sequence, capacity, the chlorinator and fluoride pump output signals, system flow rates, system totalizer, and a variety of other programmable options.

This system utilizes five Fleck 2900 Metered Backwash Valves and 24" diameter fiberglass pressure vessels. The process piping consists of 2" inlet/outlets on each of the valves. The Air Charger can be seen to the right of the sand filters and the Systemax 2000 is located on the back wall of the building behind the first and second vessels.
