charity: water Launches September Campaign To Benefit Central African Republic

charity: water (www.charitywater.org), a non-profit organization devoted to bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations, has announced the launch of its annual September Campaign, which gathers supporters to raise money to make a great impact on the water crisis in a particular region. This year, the September Campaign aims to bring clean and safe drinking water to 100% of the Bayaka people in Central African Republic — one of the poorest and most remote countries in the world.

Background
Scott Harrison founded charity: water in September 2006, with a birthday party. At one time, Harrison was New York's hottest nightclub promoter but after a year working along the west coast of Africa on Mercy Ships, he felt a deep shift in his life's mission. While once using his influence to convince the city's VIPs to spend their money on bottles of alcohol, he now taps into that enviable network to help benefit the world's poorest communities. For charity: water's second anniversary in 2008, he gave up his 32nd birthday and asked his 700-plus friends to each donate at least $32. He raised over $90,000. The birthday revolution was born and each year, charity: water hosts the September Campaign. In four years, with the help of more than 90,000 donors worldwide, charity: water has raised massive awareness and over $22 million, funding more than 2,900 water projects in 17 countries. Those projects will provide over 1,277,000 people with access to clean, safe drinking water.

Mission
According to charity: water, just $20 can give one person in a developing nation clean water for 20 years. 100% of public money raised goes to direct project costs, funding sustainable clean water solutions in areas of greatest need. charity: water's goal this year is to raise $1.7 million with the help of individual fundraisers. 100% of the money raised will fund sustainable water projects. The September campaign will include all campaigns started from August 16 through September 30. To learn more, visit http://www.charitywater.org/september/.
