British water engineering company, Biwater, has refined its treatment plant and product range to offer its clients an array of scalable modular treatment plants to provide water, wastewater and membrane treatment solutions for rural and urban populations centres.

Following years of research and product development, Biwater’s technical experts have applied their experience to optimise the modular treatment plant range and deliver robust designs that are built to last and provide flexibility to meet specific raw water conditions. The treatment plants have been designed to allow for rapid installation to respond to urgent needs.

Sir Adrian White, Biwater’s President, commented, “In these times of water scarcity and ever tightening national water budgets, our clients have been looking to Biwater to provide greater treatment options whilst providing value for money. To respond, Biwater has evolved its solutions to combine British engineering with a modern, innovative and flexible template. The company is therefore proud to present its range of modular treatment plants to help meet these challenges.”

The treatment plant range provides an economical, simple and reliable method of delivering treated water and wastewater at a reduced cost, with a reduction of up to 50% in the footprint with its multi-process modules. The range is fully scalable to cater for population equivalents from villages to the largest cities in the world.

Biwater Tower Village supply drinking water treatment plants incorporating its own reservoir 360 to 2,880 m3/day
Bipak Packaged town drinking water treatment plants manufactured locally 360 to 7,200 m3/day
Biclear Compact drinking water treatment plant for cities 10,000 to 1,000,000 m3/day
Bicom Compact sewage treatment plant in single units for towns 500 to 8,000 m3/day
Membrane Treatment Water reuse and desalination treatment plants for towns and cities 1,000 to 1,000,000 m3/day
Financial Services Bespoke finance arrangement for contracts and public/private/partnerships

Throughout the construction, operation and maintenance phases, Biwater offers guidance and provides support to local resources, as well as tailored training programmes to transfer necessary skills and expertise, enabling a long-term turnkey solution.

Biwater Tower
The Biwater Tower is a unique treatment system, for either surface or ground raw water and is designed to provide drinking water compliant with World Health Organisation requirements.

It combines elevated water storage with a modular water treatment plant and uses conventional lamella sedimentation and filtration technology in an energy efficient system that requires the minimum of space allocation and only one set of pumps from raw water source to its reservoir.

The Biwater Tower is suitable for both rural and urban environments, particularly in locations where efficient use of space and energy is required. Each Biwater Tower is prefabricated, often locally, in sections to allow for ease of transportation and rapid erection at the site.

There are four standard model sizes that can cater for a population of 3,450 to 27,600 for one Biwater Tower. Larger communities are served by multiple unit installations.

Bipak
Biwater’s packaged town drinking water treatment plant (Bipak) is based on conventional settling and filtration processes. The design is standardised in a range of prefabricated and factory built units to enable fast installation on site.

There are six standard models catering for a population equivalent range of 3,600 to 72,000. Populations for larger communities are catered for with a combination of standard models or the Biclear standard range.

Biclear
The Biwater modular treatment plant (Biclear) is based on conventional treatment processes and combines settlement, dissolved air flotation and rapid gravity filtration. The design is modularised with a range of standard components to enable fast installation on site. The treatment plant produces potable water quality or can be used as a cost effective alternative pre-treatment modular solution for seawater desalination.

There are five standard model sizes catering for populations from 100,000 to 1,000,000. Populations for larger communities are catered for with multiple models.

Bicom
Biwater’s compact wastewater treatment plant (Bicom) is based on an activated sludge process using extended aeration and optional denitrification. The design is standardised on a range of prefabricated factory built modules to enable rapid installation on site.

There are seven standard models catering for a population of 5,000 to 80,000. Larger communities are catered for with a combination of multiple models.

Membrane Treatment
Biwater is a world leader in providing customised membrane treatment for desalination and water reuse. Its in-house applications, engineering and systems design expertise provides safe, efficient and reliable outputs.

Biwater is unique amongst major membrane treatment plant manufacturers as the company combines its vast knowledge of water and sewage treatment. Biwater are then able to propose the plant best needed to treat the raw water to meet the clients’ needs.

Biwater’s custom membrane treatment solutions are designed specifically for each application.

Financial Services
As specialists in financing projects, Biwater prides itself in arranging project and export finance packages according to client requirements to fund vital short and long-term water and wastewater infrastructure works, with the expertise to fund all phases of a project, including development and design, construction, operation and maintenance.

Information on Biwater’s modular treatment product range is available on the Biwater website, where individual brochures can be downloaded for each of the treatment plants as well as Biwater financial services available.
