Biotrace History
Formed in 1988, Biotrace International Plc is today acknowledged as the pioneer and global leader in rapid cleanliness testing - transforming the way companies around the world monitor their hygiene standards.
To achieve this position in just 12 years has demanded constant innovation. For instance, Biotrace developed the world's first fully portable rapid cleanliness testing system in 1990 which was applauded at the Food Processing Awards as the Technical Development of the Year.
Three years later Biotrace had done so much to transform hygiene testing in the food industry that it won a special AIM Award for outstanding contribution to food safety and hygiene.
In 1993 the company also floated on the London Stock Exchange and launched Uni-Lite® - the most popular rapid hyiene testing system in the world. The year was rounded off when Biotrace became the UK and European market leader.
In 1995 Biotrace developed Uni-Lite® XCEL - the world's most advanced rapid hygiene testing system, offering the most sophisticated trend analysis and data storage features. A year later this was followed by the launch of Clean-Trace™ - the world's first true, single action, rapid hygiene test.
With this armory of award winning tests and systems to offer, the company became the global industry leader in 1997 - serving 19 out of the world's top 20 food & beverage companies. It doubled its production capability to meet growing customer demand and won the Queen's Award for Export Achievement.
Over recent years Biotrace has extended its focus to new sectors including the defence, industrial & catering markets. To support this expansion, product innovation has been high on its agenda. This culminated in the 2000 launch of Pro-tect™, a simple and convenient colour change surface hygiene test.
Today, with a manufacturing facility and headquarters in Bridgend, South Wales, a subsidiary in North America, 11 distributors in Europe and 29 distributors in the rest of the world, Biotrace is continuing to focus on building world leading cleanliness testing products for the world's top industries.
