As Interest In Hydropower Grows, Black & Veatch Brings Leadership To Eastern U.S.

Jay Anders has joined Black & Veatch as a Client Director and Senior Project Manager for Hydropower and Hydraulic Structures. In his new role, Anders will work with clients across the eastern United States to develop solutions to complex challenges associated with developing new and maintaining existing hydropower infrastructure.

Hydropower accounts for approximately 10 percent of total U.S. generation capacity. Many of the country’s existing assets are aging. There is growing demand to modernize and rehabilitate these clean energy facilities, to increase their efficiency and output. In addition, there is growing interest in small-scale facilities that harness energy from water flowing through existing piped infrastructure that can help utilities manage growing energy costs.

Anders brings more than 20 years of experience developing and managing hydropower facilities. He spent the majority of his career working with or for a large, regional power corporation where he was responsible for all electrical and instrumentation and control engineering activities for the company’s hydropower plants. For the past six years, Anders has worked as a consultant to hydro plant owners and major equipment providers across the United States.

Anders has extensive experience in plant assessments for rehabilitation and up-rate, complete plant upgrade designs, PLC control systems and other equipment improvements. He is a licensed professional engineer and NCEES record holder, and earned his master’s degree in science and bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
