Aquatech Reaffirms Commitment To Developing Water Treatment Technologies And Solutions To Ensure A Sustainable Water Resource

Aquatech, a global leader in water purification technology for industrial and infrastructure markets with a focus on desalination, wastewater reuse and zero liquid discharge, celebrates World Water Day by reaffirming its commitment to continue the development of technologies and solutions that reduce energy consumption and enhance conservation to ensure a sustainable water resource now and for the future.

As an example, Aquatech recently pioneered the development of LoWatt™ Membrane Desalination technology, an energy-efficient seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) system designed for higher reliability and optimal energy consumption – up to 25% less than conventional SWRO. The company will continue its efforts to develop technologies and best practices that further reduce energy requirements needed for desalination.

The company will also continue its focus on recycling and reuse of wastewater generated by industrial entities in the USA and around the world. This includes building awareness of the benefits to both industry and the environment of wastewater reuse and to ongoing development of innovative solutions to advance this practice. Recycle/reuse programs are an increasingly important strategy in view of rising stress on water resources, and are needed to help companies achieve their sustainability goals.

“Aquatech is committed to supporting our customers around the world with cutting edge sustainable solutions that minimize their life cycle cost, as well as their energy, carbon and water footprint,” said Devesh Sharma, Managing Director of Aquatech.

Aquatech’s work in advancing these goals has resulted in its being shortlisted for two Global Water Awards, for Desalination Company of the Year and Desalination Plant of the Year – Ghalilah SWRO, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. The Ghalilah facility is a low-energy 15MIGD seawater desalination plant that has consistently demonstrated low energy performance, operating at under 3 kWh/m³ – even less than the already low energy performance bid of 3.14kWh/m³. It was designed and built by Aquatech under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with the client, the UAE’s Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA).

The company is also a pioneer in Zero Liquid Discharge solutions that help power plants and other industries comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations and meet sustainability goals. This capability has assumed even greater importance, as the United States EPA has issued revised Effluent Limitation Guidelines (ELGs), and today, one of the primary challenges to coal-fired power plants meeting the new discharge requirements for Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) purge streams. Aquatech has extensive experience in providing FGD ZLD systems to power plants in the US and abroad, solving this problem by totally eliminating liquid discharge.

“Zero Liquid Discharge is a water treatment process in which all wastewater – whether from power plants or other industries – is purified and recycled, leaving zero discharge at the end of the treatment cycle. Our experience in FGD ZLD is a big asset in helping power companies in the United States and abroad comply with stricter environmental guidelines,” said Sharma.

Aquatech has been commended by the Global Water Awards for aspiring to “make deep positive contributions to industry, society and the environment. In 2015 it lived up to that aim globally, delivering brilliant solutions to its industrial clients, bringing lower-cost and energy-efficient water to the communities it serves, and protecting the environment from some of the most difficult wastewater streams known to man.”
