Aqua Metrology Systems Celebrates 10 Years Of Innovation And Market Leadership

Aqua Metrology Systems (AMS), the leader in real-time water quality analysis, is celebrating 10 years of delivering innovative water quality solutions that have transformed the way we see water.

This milestone anniversary represents a decade of intensive research and development of real-time, online water quality monitoring and intelligent water remediation solutions to predict, control and treat regulated contaminants in drinking water, process water and wastewater.

In 2010, AMS started with the simple vision that real-time water quality analysis and remediation are essential to environmental protection. In less than a month, the company introduced its THM-100 analyzer marking the start of building industry awareness of the value of real-time online high-density data.

Within months, THM-100 was installed by Scottish Water, a publicly owned water supplier in the U.K., and over the next three years, the analyzer was adopted by water systems in Ireland, U.S. and Spain. To demonstrate the power of its real-time THM analyzer, AMS began streaming live THM performance data.

In 2014, the company announced the purchase of leading-edge assets from TraceDetect Inc., a trace metals analysis and monitoring equipment company. A year later, AMS introduced and installed its new trace metal analyzer in the U.S. and Canada and continued its research and development of trace metal sensors and online THM formation potential analyzers.

2016 marked an important milestone for AMS when Aigües de Barcelona, the leading water utility in Spain owned by Suez, received accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Standard for the use of AMS THM-100 to continuously monitor THMs in its drinking water supply network. In addition to providing the utility with contract compliance and process optimization data, THM readings were used to submit regulatory compliance data.

Along with making giant strides in the delivery of predictive analytics, AMS also developed an innovative approach to harness the power of tin and provide water utilities with a safe and cost-effective way to address trace metal contamination. The company released the industry’s first in-situ stannous generator — SafeGuard H2O intelligent remediation system — designed to address a range of trace metal contaminants, including hexavalent chromium, lead, ionic mercury and selenium. SafeGuard H2O was piloted in 2017 and quickly demonstrated how innovation can reduce significantly the costs of drinking and wastewater treatment while widening access to safe drinking water and supporting tighter regulatory standards for these contaminants of concern. The deployment of this highly efficient technology, which also incorporates real-time contaminant monitoring capabilities, continued in several demonstration pilots in the U.S.

In 2019, AMS announced the opening of its Innovation Center in Wyckoff, New Jersey, dedicated to the development and commercialization of the company’s solutions for reducing the risk of lead contamination by providing water systems and communities with real-time lead monitoring solutions to protect public health. The company patented and introduced MetalGuard Lead Alert! — a novel automated and unattended real-time lead corrosion risk management system for monitoring the risk of exposure to lead contamination.

“Looking ahead to the future, AMS will continue its commitment to innovation and driving the market forward by demonstrating how high-frequency, real-time water quality data can guide the design of water treatment systems, validate new treatment technologies, control treatment systems to optimize their use of chemicals and energy, and act as a ‘canaryin-the-mine’ to warn of treatment system failures that put at risk human health and the environment,” said Rick Bacon, CEO of AMS. “We are excited to bring intelligent and cost-effective solutions to our customers and are immensely grateful for the support of our business partners and the encouragement of our clients and leading engineering groups who have been willing to work with us to bring our innovations to market.”

About AMS
Aqua Metrology Systems Ltd. (AMS) believes real-time water quality analysis and remediation are essential to environmental protection. AMS is a leader in the control of water treatment systems across municipal and industrial sectors in which disinfection byproducts (i.e., THMs) and trace metals are contaminants of concern. AMS’ online analytical instrumentation provides the high-frequency, predictive, accurate and reliable water quality data that are essential to ensuring treatment systems operate efficiently while meeting regulatory and performance standards. AMS is the pioneer of the intelligent water treatment system with its SafeGuard H2O, an innovative solution for removing trace metals that integrates real-time sensing.
