An AMERICAN Trifecta In Hillsborough County, Florida

In fast-growing Hillsborough County, Florida, the One Water Program takes a comprehensive approach to managing water in all its forms. As part of this visionary effort, the $100 million South County Potable Water Transmission Main Project strengthens water reliability, pressure, and sustainability for the region’s expanding population. Led by Westra Construction with design partner McKim & Creed, and with pipe and valve supply from AMERICAN, the project involved designing, permitting, and installing 10.7 miles of 42- and 48-inch water mains. Utilizing the Design Build model ensured seamless collaboration between the engineer, contractor, and supplier from the start, helping deliver superior value and efficient scheduling.
AMERICAN provided more than 54,000 feet of ductile iron pipe, nearly 2,000 feet of spiral-welded steel pipe installed via horizontal directional drilling (HDD), and 27 resilient wedge gate valves. Complex challenges, like a subaqueous crossing within an environmentally protected preserve, were met with innovation and teamwork. Completed in late 2024, this project reflects Hillsborough County Water Resources’ forward-thinking commitment to delivering clean, reliable water to its 725,000 customers — today and for generations to come.
