AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe Delivers For City Of Phoenix Drought Pipeline Project

Buried 20 feet beneath the bustling streets of Phoenix, Arizona, a 66-inch steel pipeline now safeguards the city’s water future. Installed as part of the City of Phoenix’s $280 million Drought Pipeline Project, this critical infrastructure — supported by AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe and Sundt Construction — delivers vital water from the Salt and Verde Rivers to North Phoenix, where Colorado River shortages once left supplies vulnerable. Completed in December 2022, the project faced complex challenges, from rerouting utilities to minimizing disruption near businesses, freeways, and schools.
Through extensive public outreach and forward-thinking leadership, the city secured strong community support. AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe supplied 4.3 miles of spiral-welded pipe, manufactured in Columbia, South Carolina, and transported over 2,000 miles to the project site. The team’s collaboration ensured seamless delivery and installation, earning accolades including Water System Project of the Year and Best Water Project honors. Now capable of delivering up to 75 million gallons a day, this pipeline enhances system flexibility and redundancy for 400,000 North Phoenix residents — a powerful testament to resilience, planning, and partnership.
