Affordable, automatic, and programmable water distribution line flushing and maintenance for municipalities and private utilities will be the focus of the Hydro-Guard exhibit (booth #355) at AWWA's ACE10, June 20-24 in Chicago.

Through interactive displays, Hydro-Guard will demonstrate how its automatic and programmable flushing systems—including its recently introduced telemetry controlled, SCADA compatible, S.M.A.R.T. System—can reduce water consumption associated with required flushing programs by as much as 180,000 gallons per site annually; allows municipalities to reallocate staff or fill the void from staff reductions; and saves as much as $13,000 per unit in the first year of operation.

Hydro-Guard, pioneers of the theory of Advanced Maintenance Flushing, was instrumental in providing expert counsel, independently commissioned client case studies, and research to support the USEPA's recent acceptance of Automatic Flushing as part of its American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) funded Green Projects Reserve (GPR) program. According to the USEPA, Automatic Flushing (permanent and temporary) is now approved for GRP grant funding. This alternative funding program enables municipalities nationwide to advance their water quality infrastructure and maintenance programs while reducing water consumption related to flushing procedures.

"We are pleased that the USEPA has recognized the soundness of automatic and programmable flushing as an alternative to traditional flushing methods and one that can positively impact municipal water conservation initiatives," said Thomas M. Taylor, P.E., president and CEO of Hydro-Guard. "This recognition has come as a result of our company's commitment to develop advanced, patented, water quality solutions that are affordable, easy to maintain, and that meet the growing demands of today's consumer."

At ACE10, Hydro-Guard‘s interactive exhibit will feature its S.M.A.R.T. Flushing System designed for maximum water conservation, two way/real-time management and water quality improvement, and maximum return-on-investment. The telemetry controlled/SCADA compatible Hydro-Guard S.M.A.R.T. Flushing System enables a single operator to manage multiple sites throughout a water utility's distribution system remotely; viewing data feeds and communicating with each site in virtual real time. With a Hydro-Guard S.M.A.R.T. Flushing System, water distribution lines are flushed when the residual level drops below the user-defined disinfectant level; on a pre-set schedule by selecting day(s) of the week, time of day, and duration of flush; at the most convenient times for customers; and with the least amount of discharged water possible.

Installation of all Hydro-Guard models is straightforward and inexpensive. Once installed, each Hydro-Guard flushing system has the potential to reduce water consumption associated with traditional flushing procedures by up to 180,000 gallons annually. With flushing and line maintenance mandated regardless of municipal staff cuts, Hydro-Guard is both a short- and long-term solution that performs reliably, satisfies customer demands for quality water, reduces costly customer complaints and lessens the impact flushing programs have on a municipality's bottom line.

About Hydro-Guard
Since 1998, Hydro-Guard has been the leader in automated flushing solutions for municipalities. Utilities throughout the U.S., Germany, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Canadian provinces have successfully used Hydro-Guard automatic and programmable flushing systems to increase disinfectant residuals, improve regulatory compliance and water quality, and reduce THM (Trihalomethane) levels and water waste.
