AEC System Proven Effective For Chloride Removal

Traditional methods for treating chlorides in wastewater are often insufficient or prohibitively expensive for municipalities and the food and beverage industry. This is a significant challenge, as excess chlorides can interfere with NPDES permit discharges. One proposed solution is the Aqueous Electrostatic Concentrator (AEC), which separates ions in water. In two separate bench-scale tests, the AEC successfully removed 99% of all chlorides in a single pass from water submitted by a Wisconsin municipality and a food manufacturer. The system also demonstrated the ability to remove other ionized constituents, achieving up to a 97% reduction in total dissolved solids (TDS). The AEC's effectiveness, low operating costs, and feasible operating parameters suggest that this technology is a commercially viable option for addressing chloride contamination.
