Addressing Water Scarcity: Ensuring Water Security With Mobile Water Solutions
Reusing water
Water security presents a growing challenge for industries worldwide, affecting operations, profitability, and sustainability initiatives. With droughts becoming increasingly frequent and severe, access to reliable water resources is no longer guaranteed. Industries dependent on water-intensive processes now face the urgent need to secure sustainable water supplies while meeting environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals.
To address these concerns, businesses are increasingly turning to mobile water treatment providers like NSI Mobile Water Solutions. Offering customized water treatment and wastewater reuse systems, these providers deliver flexible, scalable solutions tailored to industry-specific needs. By ensuring continuous water availability, mobile systems help businesses mitigate risks, enhance operational resilience, and align with sustainability commitments, all while optimizing resource efficiency and supporting long-term environmental goals.
The Urgency of Water Security
According to Global Water Intelligence (GWI), at least 69% of the effects of climate change are manifested through the water cycle, intensifying both droughts and floods. The economic impact of water-related events is projected to reach $3.1T by 2034, posing a significant risk to industries worldwide. As droughts and floods become more prevalent and industrial discharge regulations grow increasingly stringent, access to reliable water resources is becoming a critical factor in determining corporate profitability.
However, the consequences of water scarcity extend far beyond financial losses. Companies also face reputational risks and ethical challenges, as insufficient water access disrupts production, complicates regulatory compliance, and undermines sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals. In this evolving landscape, prioritizing water sustainability is not just prudent, it is essential for long-term success.
Out-of-the-box solutions to water scarcity
Innovative solutions are imperative to mitigate the impact on industries. NSI Mobile Water Solutions (NSI MWS) stands for a pragmatic response, providing tailored water, wastewater, and reuse treatment systems designed to address the specific needs of businesses facing water availability issues.
NSI Mobile Water Solutions offers a wide range of services and technologies, ensuring adequately treated water quality and quantity for industries. From emergency provision of temporary water treatment, to long-term asset rental, and advanced plug-and-play technologies capable of adapting to diverse feedwater sources -such as towns’ mains, boreholes, rivers, reservoirs, and even wastewater resources -NSI MWS provides scalable and customizable solutions to meet the most pressing demands of industrial operations.
The benefits of NSI Mobile Water Solutions are significant, especially in environments where feedwater sources vary.
By enabling industries to effectively treat alternative water sources, NSI MWS helps mitigate the risks associated with fluctuating water availability and declining water quality.
Where water resources become scarcer, water quality often deteriorates due to increased pollutant concentration, worsened by saltwater intrusion into coastal aquifers. Common applications include managing conductivity levels, suspended solids, elevated microbiological content, high organics, and alternative feed supplies as well as treating water with high chloride levels using mobile seawater reverse osmosis assets.
The NSI mobile water team has significantly strengthened its offering of mobile seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) assets with the introduction of the SWRO 50C, positioning itself as a leading provider in this sector.
The SWRO 50C is a modular, 40-foot containerized reverse osmosis system engineered to treat up to 111 m³/h of high-salinity feedwater, including brackish and seawater, producing between 35 and 50 m³/h of treated water. Designed for flexibility and rapid deployment, it serves a range of applications, such as emergency water supply, system refurbishments, planned outages, commissioning processes, and industrial water treatment.
Each SWRO 50C unit is built with a single array comprising 12 vessels, each housing seven membranes. A high-pressure pump with an integrated energy recovery device enhances efficiency, while a dedicated 20-foot Clean-In-Place (CIP) container facilitates maintenance. The system also incorporates three chemical dosing tanks for sodium bisulfite (SBS), antiscalant, and pH adjustment, ensuring optimal water quality.
For pre-filtration, the SWRO 50C is paired with two 20-foot MOFI 3x1900 SWSF seawater sand filtration units. Each unit contains three fiberglass vessels filled with advanced glass filtration media, delivering a filtered flow of 55.5 m³/h per container. The system is equipped with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) dosing and an automatic backwash function that utilizes either feedwater or treated water, maximizing reliability and operational efficiency.
Alternative solution for drinking water during water shortage in Saint Martin, Antilles
Since 2018, Saur has been managing the water facility in Saint Martin, where drinking water scarcity and scheduled maintenance at the municipal water treatment plant posed significant challenges. The need to ensure uninterrupted water production while increasing supply to meet the growing demands of the community required an innovative and flexible solution.
To overcome these obstacles, NSI Mobile Water Solutions delivered a mobile filtration unit paired with a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) system. The rapid deployment of these mobile systems provided critical advantages for the Saint Martin commune.
The swift setup and seamless integration of the desalination equipment allowed continuous water production with zero downtime, supporting both routine operations and scheduled plant maintenance. This ensured a reliable and consistent water supply, meeting the community's needs without service interruptions. The system’s adaptability offered long-term benefits, enhancing operational resilience during both daily usage and infrastructure maintenance periods, reinforcing Saur’s commitment to sustainable and dependable water management.
Advancing water Security and sustainability with mobile water solutions
As the global water crisis deepens, industries must invest in advanced water treatment technologies to ensure their sustainability.
