Case Study: Inline Spectrophotometric Multiparameter Probe For Wastewater Treatment Plant Biological Waste Monitoring

STIP-scan has been developed for online monitoring of all parameters concerning the management of biological waste processes. STIP-scan offers a number of advantages relative to standard analyzers; no sampling system required, no reagents required, and does not require frequent maintenance because the sensor is cleaned mechanically during each analysis cycle.
Application Description
The chemical, physical and biological treatment of wastewater includes very complex processes. Knowing the principle parameters defining these processes is a fundamental prerequisite. This knowledge is much more effective if it is acquired in real time. Laboratory analysis is generally more accurate than automated online methods; however, lab analysis is not always capable of detecting process variations, as it is a static method rather than dynamic. Furthermore, managing frequent lab analysis is costly, due to personnel employed and the reagents consumed. Considering the large number of parameters the operator needs to monitor, the disadvantage of installing individual online analyzers is the substantial investments in instruments and systems to transport and condition the samples. The presence of multiple analyzers, even if reliable, require a costly maintenance program.
