Case Study: Williams Monaco WWTP

Source: Veolia Water Technologies

The Williams Monaco WWTP is designed for a capacity of approximately 7 MGD. Originally, 1.5 MGD was treated using an old rock trickling filter and 5.5 MGD was treated using RBC’s and plastic trickling filters. New effluent limits were imposed with respect to Total Nitrogen and an upgrade was required.

Another challenge was the lack of space partially due to a high water table. The AnoxKaldnes™ Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor process (MBBR) was perfect for this application. The AnoxKaldnes™ process has the ability to treat over twice as much wastewater in the same space. This made the MBBR the most cost-effective system to install.
