Why Choose A Belt Press Over A Centrifuge?

Why Choose A Belt Press Over A Centrifuge?

Christopher Boyd, Director of Sales with Charter Machine Company, sat down with Water Online Radio to discuss his company, as well as the current state of the belt presses in the dewatering industries.

Boyd said, “The technology is not dead it just it has to fit the right application. When you look at the last 25 years for every one centrifuge sold there were three belt presses -- that is the same year in year out. It might change a little bit, by the tenth of a point, but overall if the industry is good they are both selling, and when the industry is bad they are both not selling. The ratio always stayed the same. You just need to look at what a customer needs.”

That, fortunately, is where Charter Machine can help. They will assess a company’s need, the application in which they will be using a machine, and advise on the optimal solution.

Charter Machine Company is now into its sixth year of successful operation of the former Roediger Pittsburgh line of equipment, and have been using their equipment and technology for years prior. The benefits of this technology include a low gravity section high kick discharge so operators don’t have to walk up platforms. “Everything is at their chest level so you can see what the process, see what’s going on. Also, the machines have a roller in the center so when you steer, you steer in the center just like steering a car. You wear both tires out evenly so the belt wears evenly,” said Boyd. This center pivot steering means instead of the industry standard of 2,000 hours of belt life we guarantee 4,000 hours of belt life.
