What Made The Becancour Water Treatment Plant A Model For Clean Water Solutions?

Becancour Water Treatment Plant

In 2012, the Becancour Water Treatment Plant in Quebec upgraded its ozone treatment infrastructure by installing a Pinnacle Summit series ozone system. The modernization replaced an aging system that struggled to efficiently meet changing treatment demands and required frequent maintenance. The new solution introduced a more reliable, scalable, and efficient approach to ozone generation and delivery.

Located along the St. Lawrence River, the city of Becancour prioritizes maintaining high water quality standards for both residents and local industry. By the early 2010s, plant operators recognized that their existing ozone system was no longer capable of delivering the flexibility and efficiency needed to support modern treatment operations. Seeking a more advanced alternative, Environmental Health Superintendent Michel Carbonneau explored emerging technologies and ultimately identified Pinnacle Ozone Solutions as the right fit.

The Pinnacle Summit system’s modular design and advanced process controls allowed the facility to match ozone production to real-time demand, eliminating inefficiencies associated with the previous system. This dynamic control improves resource utilization while ensuring consistent treatment performance. The modular architecture also provides built-in scalability and redundancy, enabling the plant to expand or maintain operations with minimal disruption.

Since installation, the system has significantly reduced maintenance requirements while improving operational reliability and efficiency. Plant operators now spend less time managing repairs and manual adjustments, allowing them to focus on broader operational priorities.

The upgrade has helped the Becancour facility consistently meet stringent water quality standards while reducing operational costs. Today, the plant serves as a strong example of how advanced ozone technology can improve performance, reliability, and long-term flexibility in municipal water treatment.
