WEDECO awarded UV Contract for Yorkshire Water Services

WEDECO awarded UV Contract for Yorkshire Water Services

Düsseldorf - WEDECO UV Systems plc, WEDECO´s subsidiary in Great Britain, has been selected on behalf of Yorkshire Water Services (YWS) to supply a UV wastewater disinfection system for Withernsea STW on the east coast of England. Withernsea STW is treating the wastewater of nearly 15,000 residents and visitors to the town.

The contract is for the supply, delivery, installation, test and commissioning of WEDECO´s successful Open Channel UV Disinfection Plant TAK55. The UV system at Withernsea will be disinfecting a total of volume of over 7,600 cubic meters per day of secondary treated effluent.

The Withernsea UV Plant will be the eighth successive UV scheme awarded to WEDECO by Yorkshire Water Services. Over the last four years UV-systems supplied by WEDECO have been successfully disinfecting sewage effluent for YWS, before it is discharged into coastal waters. One of the prime selection criteria undertaken and completed by WEDECO was the undoubted reliability of the seven previously installed UV Plants on YWS coastal sites.

Mr. Roy Cammish, Senior Contracts technician of YWS, "We implemented a planned maintenance regime for the installed UV plants in 2000, very early in the life of the plants, and are proud to say that in the Year 2002, no major breakdown of any of WEDECO's UV Plants occurred. One UV plant in particular at Scarborough, has been operating for over 36,500 hours and has a total down time of only 27 hours. This is testimony to the good working relationships developed between WEDECO and YWS, and the quality of the systems installed. Both companies are proud of their success to date in improving the bathing water quality of the Yorkshire coastline".

Yorkshire Water (part of the Kelda Group) has its headquarters in Bradford and provides 1.7M households and 140,000 businesses with water and sewerage services. They also collect and treat around one 136,000 tonnes of wastewater which is safely put back into the environment each day.

Both WEDECO and Yorkshire Water are totally committed to the protection of our environment. The improving environment will make the region a cleaner, healthier and more enjoyable place to live and to visit.
