WaterSurplus Announces Milestone Deployment Of Its NanoStack Membrane Coating At Orange County Water District
WaterSurplus, a leading innovator in membrane technologies and advanced water treatment solutions, announced the successful completion of a multi-year pilot test of its patented NanoStack coated membranes at the Orange County Water District’s (OCWD) Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS).
Following the pilot results, OCWD will move forward with the installation of 1,050 NanoStack-coated membranes, representing a full reverse osmosis train capable of treating approximately 5 million gallons of water per day for indirect potable reuse at the world’s largest advanced water purification facility.
Pilot data demonstrated that NanoStack significantly improves fouling resistance, reducing clean-in-place requirements by more than half, and lowering RO energy consumption by more than 15%. Because energy is one of the highest operating costs for advanced treatment systems, these efficiencies enable an estimated payback period of less than two years, according to WaterSurplus Chief Technology Officer Dr. Dileep Agnihotri.
NanoStack is an NSF/ANSI/CAN 61‑certified hydrophilic membrane surface modification applied to finished RO membrane elements. This advanced coating improves membrane durability, cleanability, and membrane lifespan, helping operators across industries achieve more reliable operation with lower lifecycle costs.
