Under Joint Venture CH2M HILL And Beca Win Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant

Following the largest environmental restoration and WWTP construction project in New Zealand, an upgraded BNR system expands capacity at Mangere WWTP

CH2M Beca Limited , a joint venture between CH2M HILL, a global full-service consulting, design, construction and operations firm in the USA and Beca, the largest New Zealand owned engineering consultancy, was recently selected by Watercare Services Limited as the Professional Engineering Advisor to upgrade the biological nutrient removal (BNR) system at the Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Auckland, New Zealand. The treatment plant upgrade will further improve Auckland’s water quality by reducing the nutrients going into the Manukau Harbour, and increasing the capacity of the existing system will help accommodate the city’s growing population.

CH2M Beca provides consulting engineering services and full project delivery to New Zealand’s water and wastewater industry and has a strong history of working with Watercare, previously part of a team responsible for the successful completion of Project Manukau—New Zealand’s largest environmental restoration and WWTP construction project and recipient of the Supreme Award for New Zealand Engineering Excellence. For more informatin, visit www.ch2mbeca.com

Bringing expertise and a deep understanding of the plant design and operations from Project Manukau to the BNR upgrade, this project continues CH2M Beca’s role at Mangere WWTP and will involve the design and tender documentation for a 2 m3/s capacity increase utilizing BNR in a 4-stage Bardenpho configuration. Subsequent stages will encompass the site supervision, as well as management of construction contractor and plant commissioning assistance and operator training. The project is scheduled for handover to Watercare in 2017.

The CH2M HILL team will be led by project manager Rob Burchell, who was involved in the close out of the award-winning Project Manukau. Says Burchell, “This win solidifies our position as New Zealand’s foremost water and wastewater professional services provider. We are eager to rekindle our relationship with Watercare and our joint venture partner Beca to deliver exceptional project outcomes.”
