Transfer of Technology Among Three New Offerings Published by National Ground Water Association
The other titles are the Ground Water Contracting Industry Survey (2003) and the December 2003 Water Well Journal containing highlights from the Ground Water Industry Survey.
Transfer of Technology (NGWA Press, hardbound, 266 pgs.) is a compilation of L'Espoir's monthly article series published in Water Well Journal from July 2001 through December 2003. The book helps readers:
- Understand the importance of matched components on a rig to handle drilling and casing requirements.
- Know the interrelationship of individual components in a rig.
- Extend the life of equipment substantially.
- Understand how equipment maintenance and use relate to safety.
The 31 chapters cover topics ranging from mud pumps/flow, centrifugal pumps, mast designs and hydraulic systems to electric systems, drilling systems, rig repairs, old machinery and safety. An equipment designer for 35 years, L'Espoir received NGWA's Technology Award in December, 2003, for major contributions to the development of ideas, tools/equipment and techniques of well construction.
"The inspiration for this book came, in part, from the enthusiastic response of readers to John's column in Water Well Journal," said Kevin McCray, NGWA executive director. "Readers simply loved the series because he spoke simply and authoritatively about bread-and-butter issues that water well contractors face everyday. It's a must-read for someone whose livelihood depends on a drill rig."
