The Risks Of Rushing A PFAS Solution (And How To Avoid Them)
Recent and upcoming federal regulations on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have sent water treatment plants (WTPs) into a mad dash to find long-term solutions. The good news is that there are many technologies that can effectively treat PFAS. The bad news is that there are a lot of factors that need to be considered when determining the one that will work for any given treatment operation. But WTPs need to be careful: rushing into a decision can mean investing millions of dollars in a solution that solves nothing. At the same time, plant managers know that regulations can and do change, so that a solution that works now could be rendered insufficient years later.
To avoid this, WTPs should consider renting a temporary PFAS treatment solution. A temporary treatment package gives WTPs time to evaluate longer-term options while still meeting the current regulations. At the same time, it offers hands-on experience in treating PFAS that can help inform decision-making for the permanent installation.
