Telvent Awarded Qatar Water Supply Management System Contract
Manuel Sánchez Ortega, Telvent chairman and chief executive officer, commented, "With this significant new contract, Telvent reinforces its presence in the Middle East. Telvent has already implemented several projects in the region in our core business segments, including the water supply system for the city of Amman (Jordan), management of the water distribution network in Ankara (Turkey), management of the gas pipeline system that joins Turkey and Iraq, and a gas pipeline control system for GASCO in Cairo (Egypt)."
The Doha project, covering an area of approximately 11,437 square kilometers and supplying water to a population of almost 750,000, is part of a technology innovation program that is currently being developed in Qatar. Telvent will design and install a turnkey supervisory, control and data acquisition system as well as the related communications infrastructure for the drinkable water supply network in the city of Doha and surrounding area. The system will feature a variety of value-added applications such as leakage management, pressure control and water quality software, and will also include the implementation of a Control Center facility at West Bay Lagoon, located in Doha.
The system design will utilize Telvent's industry-leading technology platform for real-time information management - OASyS DNA - which has been developed using the company's extensive R&D program. This technology platform is an evolution of the system software which already manages water and wastewater systems in numerous other Telvent installations, including the cities of Columbus (U.S.), Lima (Peru), Seville (Spain), Ankara (Turkey), and Amman (Jordan).
