Syensqo And Nitto Pioneer The Use Of Mass Balance Certified Udel PSU ECHO In Water Treatment Membranes

Syensqo’s drop-in polysulfone ECHO solution aligns with Nitto’s sustainability objective of enabling a circular society

Syensqo, a leading global provider of high-performance materials and chemical solutions, is partnering with Nitto, a major Japanese supplier of engineered insulation, separation and filtration products, to replace fossil-based polysulfone in water treatment membranes with a new circular Udel PSU ECHO resin. The Udel ECHO grade is made with third-party certified 34% non-fossil circular¹ raw materials, attributed through mass balance, and has a lower carbon footprint, enabling Nitto to expand its sustainable portfolio without compromising on processability and end-use performance.

The circularity of the new Udel PSU ECHO material is mass balance certified under the widely-recognized International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS system. It provides a drop-in solution with identical performance to standard fossil-based PSU, with the added benefit of a lower carbon footprint.

Nitto’s new water treatment membranes using circular Udel PSU ECHO are designed for a wide range of water treatment installations, from municipal water supply to industrial desalination projects.
