Sweco Supports Ukraine To Enhance Waste Management And Wastewater Infrastructure

Sweco has signed agreements to support Ukraine in the reconstruction of critical infrastructure through several projects related to wastewater and waste management. The projects are funded by Swedish and Danish authorities as well as by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The new projects are:

  • Sweco has signed a framework agreement with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Naturvårdsverket, to provide consultancy services in the field of waste management in Ukraine. The Swedish EPA, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture is working to build capacity and to facilitate the EU-alignment and implementation process in the environmental sector. The Swedish EPA is implementing a project funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). The project, “Institutional cooperation on EU accession in the environment and waste sector in Ukraine,” aims to enhance the capacity of authorities at national, regional and local levels to implement efficient waste management systems. Under the agreement, Sweco will support the Swedish EPA with the implementation of the project. The framework agreement has a total value of up to SEK 7.5 million and runs to December 2027.
  • Sweco has also been appointed to lead two major wastewater infrastructure projects in Ukraine. The projects aim to restore and future-proof essential services as part of international efforts to strengthen the country’s critical infrastructure. The projects are located in Mykolaiv and Rivne. The Mykolaiv project is being delivered on behalf of Impact Fund Denmark (formerly Danida Sustainable Infrastructure Finance), while the Rivne project is funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The agreements have a total value of up to DKK 7.0 million and commenced in June 2025, and are scheduled for completion in Q1 2026.

This work includes district heating, building energy efficiency, residential housing and wastewater treatment.
