Sulzer Helps To Dewater "Stuttgart 21," The Largest Deep Construction Project In Europe

Stuttgart 21 is a significant railway and urban development initiative taking place in Stuttgart, Germany. The project is a component of the upgraded Stuttgart–Augsburg railway and serves as a major transportation link for the Trans-European Transport Networks, connecting cities such as Paris, Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest. The central focus of Stuttgart 21 is the transformation of the existing Stuttgart central station from a terminal station to a through-station, with the entire facility being relocated underground.

The comprehensive project involves the construction of 57 kilometers of new railways, comprising 34 kilometers of tunnels and 25 kilometers of high-speed lines. This extensive network expansion aims to enhance connectivity, efficiency, and capacity for both regional and international travel.

By moving the Stuttgart central station underground, the project seeks to improve the city's urban development by freeing up valuable surface space for other purposes. This ambitious endeavor represents a significant infrastructure upgrade for Stuttgart and plays a vital role in facilitating seamless rail connections across Europe.
