Spotlight On Wastewater Treatment With Prestigious Television Slot For Lakeside On All Access With Andy Garcia

Flying the flag for almost a century, this time at the City of Washington (Indiana) where an automated Lakeside rake system cleans and clears the bar screen during storm events.

In a TV show that will explain the complex journey of the wastewater treatment process, Lakeside Equipment Corporation is set to feature in Public Television’s All Access with Andy Garcia.

Lakeside was approached to be part of this popular educational program that takes the audience behind the scenes to show the workings and necessity of wastewater treatment, exploring the question: “Where does the water go, after it is flushed?”.

Lakeside chose the backdrop of the award-winning wastewater treatment plant at Bull Shoals, Arkansas, situated on the picturesque White River. Combining exceptional equipment and highly trained operators, this plant epitomizes the environmental consciousness required for returning clean water to the pristine river that is world renowned for its trout fishing.

Dan Widdel, President of Lakeside Equipment Corporation, commented: “It is an honor indeed for us to partner with such a very educational and informative TV program, bringing to light the positive and usually unrecognized work that our industry does to an extremely wide audience. Most people don’t realize all the incredible work that goes into transforming raw wastewater and stormwater into usable, environmentally friendly water.”

He added: “Filming with the All Access with Andy Garcia team was in itself an amazing experience. They allowed us to tell the complete story of how wastewater is treated, and the many benefits that wastewater treatment plants bring to a community. We were able to showcase the multiple stages of treatment, beginning with screening and grit removal, followed by biological treatment and clarification, climaxing with filtration and disinfection. We also included the advanced technology of biological treatment, focusing on Biological Nutrient Removal to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus levels that are detrimental to aquatic life.

“We are also able to add a call to action, highlighting the importance of being mindful of what is disposed of down drains and toilets, encouraging the proper disposal of wipes – NEVER TO BE FLUSHED – as well as greases, chemicals and medications.”

Dan Widdel continued: “Efficiently and effectively treating raw effluent has been Lakeside’s passion for almost a century! That’s why our proud company motto is ‘Cleaner Water for a Brighter Future’. It’s what we strive for with every piece of equipment we design, every engineer we collaborate with and every customer we support.”
