SJW Highlights Key Achievements And Investments In 2025

Efforts throughout the past year focused on environmental stewardship, supporting customers, and investing in local communities.

San Jose Water (“SJW” or “the Company”), a wholly owned subsidiary of H2O America, celebrates a year of impactful advancements and important milestones across water management and customer service.

“Strategic investment in infrastructure is fundamental to our mission and to the customers who rely on us every day,” said Tanya Moniz-Witten, President of San Jose Water. “Sustaining a dependable supply of high-quality drinking water requires continuous improvement. These operational efficiencies are also key to affordability, which remains top of mind in everything we do.”

2025 Highlights Include:
Advancements in Infrastructure: SJW successfully completed over 300 projects in 2025, replacing 24 miles of water main and strengthening system resilience and sustainability with new solar systems and electric vehicle chargers. Critical improvements at key facilities were completed, including a new well blowoff sump at 17th Street Station, a new pressure system at Perie Lane Station, and a new booster station at Canyon Creek Station.

Advanced Leak Detection Program: SJW’s advanced leak detection program helped save an estimated 376 million gallons of water. That’s enough to fill Levi’s Stadium more than five times. 445 leaks were detected spanning 18 water mains, 120 service laterals, 140 hydrants, 1 valve, and 166 customer leaks.

Smart Meter Rollout: As of the end of 2025, SJW was more than halfway through its deployment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), which will give customers detailed insight into their water usage. Over 125,000 smart meter installations have already been completed across the company’s service area.

Solar Energy Achievements: In 2025, SJW’s solar systems generated 2,046 MWh —a 36% increase from 2024 —equivalent to the carbon sequestration of over 154 acres of US forest for a year.

Investing in our Community: $254M in capital improvement projects were completed — ensuring continued safe, reliable, and efficient water service to our customers.

New Customer Portal: SJW launched SJWaterHUB, its new customer portal for customers to pay their bill, track water usage and manage their accounts — all in one spot.

Protecting the Watershed: SJW expanded its network of AI-based wildfire smoke detection sensors to cover over 24,000 acres of land and drinking water systems in the Los Gatos Creek Watershed. August of 2025 marked SJW’s second annual Watershed Appreciation Month with community content focused on protecting the local watershed and environmental resilience.

Commitment to fire safety: SJW inspected more than 11,500 fire hydrants in 2025 as part of its commitment to support fire safety and preparedness, in partnership with local fire departments.

Forest Health Program includes targeted treatments to enhance water quality: These treatments are designed specifically to protect drinking‑water quality by lowering wildfire intensity—and therefore the ash, nutrients, and sediment that would otherwise flush into reservoirs and surface‑water intakes during post‑fire storms. Treatments are also paired with erosion‑control BMPs (road drainage upgrades, slope stabilization, and riparian buffers) and monitoring to verify outcomes and protections at the source. These on‑the‑ground measures are integrated with near‑intake controls and plant‑level measures, so residual turbidity or organics are intercepted before entering the system—tightening the end‑to‑end link between fuels management and water‑quality protection.

2026 Initiatives
2026 marks the second year of SJW’s General Rate Case (GRC), which has been approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). SJW has been authorized to invest $450M over three years in drinking water infrastructure to support day-to-day water system functions, fire protection, economic vibrancy, and environmental conservation efforts. In Q1 2026, SJW is set to complete construction of two new tanks at Cambrian Station. Other 2026 initiatives include a water main replacement program targeting 24 additional miles of pipeline over the next 12 months and continuation of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure rollout and installation of smart meters for customers.
