Shayp 4IMPACT Launches As Real-Time Urban Water Replenishment Platform With Microsoft One Of First To Adopt

  • Shayp has entered into a 10-year partnership with Microsoft to deliver verified, auditable water savings by funding technology deployment in public and community buildings
  • Initially focusing on the cities of Brussels and Paris, the project will target 625+ schools and public buildings across Europe
  • On average, more than 20% of water consumption in schools and universities can be considered wasted
  • Shayp's 4IMPACT dynamic reporting tools generate ready-to-use figures for sustainability standards, including Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)

Belgian water technology company Shayp has launched Shayp 4IMPACT, a pioneering corporate water conservation and efficiency platform that delivers quantifiable, verified benefits through precision monitoring.

Building on a track record of eight billion litres already saved annually, Shayp’s corporate platform launch is anchored by a 10-year partnership with Microsoft. The 4IMPACT platform is now available to corporations worldwide looking to achieve measurable water replenishment goals through scalable urban infrastructure solutions.

Urban and populated areas present unique challenges for water conservation - from complex building infrastructure to the scale of intervention required. Unlike traditional watershed investment platforms that provide estimated water savings, Shayp's 4IMPACT platform enables corporate partners to achieve verified, auditable water savings by funding technology deployment in public and community buildings, such as schools and hospitals, within their operational watersheds.

This approach enables corporations to meet their water stewardship commitments while simultaneously strengthening community water infrastructure.

Precision monitoring technology backs water benefit commitment
Shayp's precision monitoring guarantee is made possible by its IoT-enabled monitoring technology that can be retrofitted on existing buildings in just five minutes. The system creates a digital twin of water consumption, monitoring water meter data with exceptional precision - capturing one data point every 30 seconds, with detection sensitivity as low as a trickle.

Once connected to a building's main water meter, Shayp's AI-powered software learns from water usage patterns and flags anomalies in real-time.

The technology addresses a critical gap: 95% of water leaks go unnoticed or unreported over long periods, and more than 20% of total water wasted is avoidable with targeted maintenance. Shayp's dynamic reporting tools also generate ready-to-use figures for sustainability standards, including BREEAM, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and CDP Water*, streamlining corporate ESG reporting requirements.

The Shayp 4IMPACT platform provides schools and public buildings with free access to water monitoring technology and leak prevention services, while enabling corporate partners to meet their water savings commitments.

"Many solutions have tried to address customer-side leak detection but face the hard reality of very inconsistent and complex infrastructure that requires a very flexible approach," said Grégoire de Hemptinne, Shayp's co-founder and managing director. "Our 4IMPACT platform is the first of its kind water replenishment model that enables our corporate partners to achieve verified volumetric water benefits. Through continuous monitoring, we can measure and verify every litre saved, providing guaranteed water savings rather than relying on projections."

Microsoft partnership delivers verified results
Shayp has entered into a 10-year partnership with Microsoft to focus on water savings in education and public buildings in Brussels and Paris. Schools are very prone to leakage - on average, more than 20% of water consumption in schools and universities can be considered wasted*. The project targets 125 schools in Brussels and 500 schools and public buildings in Paris.

"In order to become water positive by 2030, part of our strategy is to replenish water in watersheds where we operate,” said Eliza Roberts, water lead at Microsoft. "Shayp 4IMPACT allows us to tackle these challenges head-on by working directly with schools and public buildings in cities like Brussels and Paris, using precision monitoring to deliver verified water savings where it's needed most."

Growing corporate interest drives platform expansion
Shayp is expanding Shayp 4IMPACT availability to corporations across Europe that are seeking verified water replenishment solutions. Shayp's technology has already demonstrated significant impact across existing clients, with proven results including:

  • Over eight billion litres saved annually
  • Over 20% water usage reduction (City of Brussels case study)
  • Monitoring of 9,000+ buildings
  • Detection precision down to a trickle

A real estate portfolio using Shayp can expect a return on investment in less than one year and 21% savings on water bills.

Market expansion
Shayp currently operates in the Benelux region, France, Germany and the UK. The company is expanding its offering across Europe through a network of partners and also assessing opportunities in water-stressed regions where its model could make the greatest difference.

The launch of Shayp 4IMPACT represents a fundamental shift in corporate water stewardship from estimated to guaranteed water benefits, providing the measurable, auditable outcomes that corporates need for their sustainability reporting and replenishment targets.

“I'm very proud to see partners such as Microsoft committed to including water in their ESG objectives,” added Gregoire de Hemptinne. “Today, companies must invest in long-term water security solutions beyond their own operations. Forward-thinking corporations recognise that investment in sustainable infrastructure today will benefit communities for decades to come."

He added: "I would like to encourage more corporations to invest in water replenishment projects that will make their business model sustainable in the long run and guarantee their licence to operate."

The Brussels-based company has saved 27 billion litres since 2017 - enough to fill an Olympic swimming pool lane spanning from their headquarters to New York. The company's current annual savings of 8 billion litres add another 1,600 kilometres of pool lanes each year.

BREEAM = BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is the world's leading sustainability certification system for buildings, promoting environmentally responsible design and construction practices.

CSRD = The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is an EU regulation that requires large and listed companies to publish regular reports on their social and environmental risks and impacts.

CPD Water = CDP Water focuses on promoting water security through transparency and accountability. They hold the world's largest set of publicly reported corporate water information, helping analyse companies' performance and risks related to water.
