Satellite Intelligence In Leak Detection

Source: ASTERRA

Through ASTERRA, The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) has launched LeakTracer– a first-of-its-kind grant funding program that deploys AI and advanced satellite technology to reduce water loss and strengthen long-term water resilience for rural water utilities state-wide. LeakTracer leverages advanced satellite imaging and artificial intelligence to identify real water loss across distribution networks, covering up to 1400 square miles at one time. This model highlights how data-driven decision-making and remote sensing can transform traditional infrastructure management, serving as a blueprint for other states and communities seeking innovative, cost-effective solutions to water loss.
