Satbayev University Scientists Presented The Micro-Plastic Water Purification Project Results At The General Assembly Of European Union Of Geosciences

Satbayev University scientists participated in the General Assembly of European Union of geosciences (EGU General Assembly 2026), a key global forum aimed at finding scientific answers to global environmental challenges and promoting the sustainable development.

Associate professor Kulyash Alimova’s research group presented the results of "Modeling the health effects of micro-plastics and developing the wastewater treatment methods to improve the water systems quality" grant project as part of the assembly’s poster presentation on "Micro-plastics in Central Asian Wastewater systems: Analytical Workflows, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Uncertainties, and Research Priorities."

The results of the analysis of micro-plastic wastewater treatment technologies in Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries presented by our scientists, as well as the proposed research program for micro-plastics in wastewater until 2030, aroused wide interest among the assembly participants. The experts took part in a long discussion that focused on comparing the outcomes with global scientific databases, different approaches to monitoring micro-plastics, and future interdisciplinary initiatives in collaboration with scientists from different countries.

Participation in EGU-2026 General Assembly allowed Satbayev University researchers to share best practices and establish strategic contacts with the world's leading scientists specializing in environmental monitoring and water purification.

A successful performance at such an authoritative international platform will contribute to the global dissemination of University's scientific achievements, the integration of Kazakh science into the global research space and the strengthening of international collaboration to solve cross-border and regional environmental issues.
